The Webster dictionary defines resourceful as able to meet situations and capable of devising ways and means. This month, RCI Insurance Group is learning about the character trait of resourcefulness.
Part of being resourceful involves finding what you need and using what you have. But it also means improving your resources and sharing it with others. Wealth is not limited to your finances, so recognize what you already have and put it to good use. So examine your surroundings for unused resources. When you buy something you think you need, first make sure you don’t already have it at home and second look for the best price possible. Finding cost-effective ways to meet your needs is an excellent form of resourcefulness.
How many times have we gone to the grocery store and bought something we knew we needed only to find we already had several at home? This happens to even the best of us. If we are learning to be resourceful, we should take inventory before we go buy something. Times are difficult for many people and since money doesn’t grow on trees, we have to learn to spend sparingly.
One of the more difficult steps towards being resourceful is sharing with others. Sometimes it’s hard to take inventory of your own things. But if it’s not being used, it just takes up space, loses value, and maybe someone else could use it. A good idea for things with a particular resource is to sell or give it away. Find someone who could use what you have to give away.
